They had a unit that loaded from the back and, given the emergency nature of the work they usually hot loaded, so when the clumsy firefighters and patient focused flight care teams were wildly wheeling around to load a patient, the pilot would put his BACK to the RUNNING tail rotor and his arms out to direct idiots away. …I was never in the military but I was blessed with the opportunity to work with ex-Vietnam helicopter pilots when they transitioned to civilian service flying air care helicopters, and got to talk to some of them a little when I had LZ detail and the flight surgeon was off at the scene.
